Masjid Addas, located in Al Mathnah, Taif, is a modest but historically significant mosque named after Addas—a Christian slave who embraced Islam after a moving encounter with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It is believed that the mosque stands on the site of Addas’s former home, where he offered grapes to the Prophet during his visit to Taif. This moment is notable as it marks the first recorded conversion to Islam from the city.

Historical Importance:

The story of Addas is a powerful one. Sent by his master to bring grapes to the Prophet, Addas was profoundly affected by their conversation and accepted Islam on the spot. This made him the first person from Taif to become Muslim, symbolizing the early spread of Islam even in the face of opposition.

The Prophet Muhammad visited Taif after facing severe persecution in Mecca, hoping to find support. Instead, he was met with rejection and violence. He and his companion, Zaid ibn Harithah, eventually found brief refuge in a garden owned by Utbah and Shaybah, where the encounter with Addas took place. According to historical accounts, the current location of Masjid Addas is believed to be the very spot where the Prophet rested and met Addas.
